2011 Season                                                                                   9-20-11

Newsletter # 6

We just really couldn’t catch a break weather-wise this year.  Even when our tournaments weren’t canceled many of them were not so fun to be fishing in.

I heard only a couple of boats made it out this past weekend.  I think the Producer caught a nice wahoo but unfortunately it wasn’t quite big enough to make the standings.

So that means The Irish Anne is the 2011 STBGFC Club Champion!!  Way to go Irish Gary!!  Gary had a heck of a year.  He not only caught the first daytime sword in our club’s history but he also won TIFT!  No one works harder at this fishing stuff than Gary does so this one is well deserved!!  Way to go Gary!!!

Last year’s champion the Reel Salty finished second followed by the Producer and Queen B in third and forth respectively!  Congratulations everyone.

Our Individual Champion for 2011 is Estee Combs!!  From Youth Champion to overall Champion in just a few years!  She is now 15.  Estee likes to fish about as much as anyone I know so she is a very deserving champion!  Great job Estee.  Very proud of you!

David O’Brien took second place honors with Randy Morris and Foley Bunk finishing in third and forth respectively.  Foley is another one of our “not so long ago youth contestants”.  He is only 14 now.  Congratulations to all of you.

Our 2011 Tag and Release Champion is The Irish Anne.  Second went to the Reel Salty followed by the Producer in third.

Our 2011 Youth Champion went to yet another of the Bunk clan.  Davis Bunk took the trophy this year.  Davis caught his first billfish of his career this year during one of our club tournaments.  He is just another in the line of many Bunks that have won something in our club.  Seems like I say that every year….

The two Bryant sisters rounded out our Youth standings with Rheagan coming in second and Kennedy coming in third.  Both girls not only caught their first billfish of their careers but they each caught two!  Quite a feat.  Congratulations to all of our Youth participants!

Estee Combs won our yellowfin tuna division with David O’Brien coming in second.  The wahoo division was won by Armando Rivas with Travis Flanagan taking second.  And finally, our dolphin division was won by Rob Richards with 2011 TIFT Hostess Elizabeth Schill coming in second.  Congratulations to all of our meat fish division winners!

Well that’s it.  There were some nice fish caught though and I know a good time was had by all.  Thanks again to the Bunk and the Richards families for hosting our “eat and greets”.  Those are always fun and we are lucky to have members like these in our little club.

The Awards Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd.  I will be providing more information as that date gets closer.

Thanks again so much to all of our members especially in one of our most challenging years.  Hopefully the weather Gods will look much more favorably on us next year!
